Haflong: In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Assam’s Dima Hasao Police seized 220.6 grams of suspected heroin and detained three persons during a special operation at New Haflong Railway Station early on Saturday.
According to police sources, the three suspects had arrived at the railway station from Silchar and were preparing to board a Guwahati-bound train.
Acting on specific intelligence, security personnel kept the suspects under surveillance before intercepting and searching them.
During the search, police recovered 220.6 grams of suspected heroin concealed in 18 plastic soap cases specially modified to hide the contraband. Police also seized three mobile phones from the accused.
The recovered narcotics and other seized items have been taken into custody for further investigation.
Police said the three detainees are being interrogated to ascertain the source of the drugs, their intended destination, and the possible involvement of other members of the trafficking network.
A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further legal action is underway.
Police described the seizure as a significant success in the ongoing drive against drug trafficking in the Northeast, reaffirming their commitment to dismantling narcotics networks operating in the region.
