Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the state government plans to develop hanging gardens on flyovers in Guwahati as part of efforts to enhance the city’s urban landscape and create greener public spaces.
Speaking during a Facebook Live session, Sarma said the proposed hanging gardens are intended to beautify flyovers while integrating greenery into the city’s expanding infrastructure.
The Chief Minister said the initiative forms part of the government’s broader urban development plans aimed at improving Guwahati’s aesthetic appeal and promoting a cleaner environment.
During the interaction, Sarma also reviewed the flood situation in the state, saying Assam has so far remained largely unaffected by severe flooding this monsoon.
He said only parts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji continue to face flood-related challenges and assured that the government is providing all necessary relief and assistance to affected residents.
“The government stands firmly with the affected people and is ensuring that all required assistance reaches them,” Sarma said.
He added that the administration is closely monitoring the flood situation while continuing with infrastructure and urban development projects across the state.
