Haflong: The implementation of the Mission Greater Haflong Water Supply Scheme under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 has entered the execution stage with the commencement of eviction at a partially encroached government plot identified for the construction of a key water reservoir.
The land, belonging to the Soil Conservation Department at Lodi village in Haflong, has been earmarked for a major reservoir that forms a critical component of the drinking water project.
Approved under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ AMRUT 2.0 programme, the centrally funded project aims to address the long-standing drinking water shortage in Haflong, the district headquarters of Dima Hasao and Assam’s only hill station.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 100.63 crore, is designed to provide a pumping capacity of 70 lakh litres of water per day. It will cover 10,086 households through House Service Connections (HSCs) and include the laying of around 70.25 km of distribution pipelines across the town.
An underground reservoir with a storage capacity of 2.2 lakh litres will also be constructed to support continuous water distribution and improve the efficiency of the supply system.
Officials said the reservoir is a key component of the Greater Haflong Water Supply Scheme and is expected to help ensure a safe and reliable drinking water supply for the town’s growing population.
The project is scheduled to be completed within 18 months.
