Assam government announces land pattas for 3.5 lakh tea garden workers and plans government-funded houses for the tea community.

Guwahati: The Assam government has announced plans to provide land pattas to around 3.5 lakh tea garden workers and build houses for members of the tea garden community under government-funded schemes.

Announcing during the seventh day of the Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly on July 14, Panchayat & Rural Development, Excise, Implementation of Assam Accord, and Border Protection & Development Minister Atul Bora said the move aims to provide greater security and improve the living conditions of tea garden workers.

Bora informed the Assembly that many tea garden workers have been residing in estates for generations without legal ownership documents. Granting land rights, he said, would help address the long-standing issue of land security among the community.

The minister also announced that the government would construct houses for tea garden families as part of its efforts to enhance basic amenities and provide better residential facilities.

The initiative is part of Assamโ€™s larger welfare measures for the tea garden community, which remains a crucial contributor to the stateโ€™s economy and workforce.
