Assam Assembly reveals over 15.43 lakh active job seekers as of June 2026, with 3.55 lakh fresh registrations this year.(Representational photo)

Guwahati: Over 15.43 lakh people are currently enrolled as active job seekers in Assam, the state government informed the Legislative Assembly on Monday.

Replying to a starred question raised by MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed, Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister Prasanta Phukan said the Directorate of Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship had 15,43,350 active registrations as of June 30, 2026.

He also informed the House that the department had recorded 15,82,987 registered job seekers on March 31, 2016, and has continued to maintain annual registration data since then.

Figures presented in the Assembly showed that 11,53,971 job seekers were registered in 2022, when the department processed 10,34,613 fresh applications.

The number of registered job seekers increased sharply to 20,10,517 in 2023, with 8,56,546 new registrations during the year. In 2024, the total reached 21,16,561, including 1,06,044 fresh additions.

In 2025, the count of active job seekers stood at 11,88,160, while 2,49,765 people registered with the department.

By June 30, 2026, the number of active registrations had risen to 15,43,350, with 3,55,741 new job seekers added during the period.

The government further stated that 12,52,731 registrations had expired or become inactive as of June 30, 2026.

Providing a breakdown by educational qualification, the minister said graduates formed the largest segment with 6,48,899 registrations, followed by 1,16,159 postgraduates.

The employment register also includes 62,581 technical diploma holders and 65,989 technical graduates, highlighting the large number of skilled and professionally qualified candidates looking for jobs across the state.

The details were shared in response to Assembly queries seeking year-wise employment registration figures and the educational background of individuals registered with the Directorate of Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship.
