Guwahati: Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania on Wednesday inaugurated two newly constructed link roads in the Shanti Nagar area of Basistha, aiming to improve intra-locality connectivity and ease traffic movement for residents.

The new roads connect key residential pockets between Damsite and Model Village in the Latakata area under Basistha. Residents welcomed the projects, saying they are expected to reduce travel time and provide smoother access to nearby neighbourhoods.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mayor Sarania said the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) remains committed to strengthening urban infrastructure and ensuring balanced development across different parts of the city. He said improving road connectivity in residential areas is a priority to make commuting safer and more convenient for the public.

The mayor added that the newly built link roads would not only enhance connectivity within the locality but also improve access to essential services and support the area’s overall development. He assured residents that the civic body would continue implementing similar infrastructure projects in other parts of Guwahati to address long-pending public demands.

Councillor Jun Das, officials of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, and local residents were present during the inauguration ceremony. The event also witnessed participation from community representatives, who expressed hope that the improved road network would help decongest internal roads and facilitate easier movement for commuters.

The inauguration forms part of GMC’s ongoing efforts to upgrade civic infrastructure and improve urban mobility across Guwahati as the city continues to witness rapid expansion and increasing traffic pressure.
