Imphal: The Manipur government on Friday launched a special enrolment and saturation drive in Kakching district to facilitate the inclusion of eligible internally displaced persons (IDPs) in various social welfare schemes.
The drive was organised at Wangoo Tera High School by the Kakching district administration, the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO), the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) under the Department of Social Welfare.
The initiative covered IDPs staying at the Wangoo Tera High School relief camp as well as eligible non-camp beneficiaries.
Officials facilitated enrolment under several welfare schemes, including the Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme, Chief Minister’s Widow Pension Scheme, Disability Pension Schemes, Unemployment Allowance to Persons with Disabilities, Ima Nongthang Leima Yaifa Tengbang Scheme and sponsorship under Mission Vatsalya.
The enrolment drive will continue from 10.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. on July 6 at KBM English School in Kakching Khunou and on July 7 at the Tangjeng Khunjao Community Hall Relief Camp.
According to official data, nearly 60,000 internally displaced persons are currently living in relief camps across Manipur, including around 18,000 registered voters.
The Election Commission of India has allowed displaced voters to remain enrolled in their native constituencies while casting their votes from designated relief camps. To facilitate the process, special Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) have been appointed and designated camps established to assist IDPs in updating and verifying their electoral details.
