Guwahati: More than 7,800 enumeration forms were issued on Tuesday as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls got under way in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills districts.
Election officials have launched the exercise across all 898 polling stations in East Khasi Hills, covering 15 Assembly constituencies.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are visiting households to distribute the forms, which will later be collected. The entire process is scheduled to be completed by July 29.
Among the Assembly segments in East Khasi Hills, West Shillong recorded the highest distribution with 391 forms. It was followed by Pynursla (375), North Shillong (317), Mawsynram (317), Mawryngkneng (306), Sohiong (275), South Shillong (218), Nongkrem (203), Mylliem (174), Mawlai (166), Nongthymmai (140), East Shillong (124), Mawkynrew (117), Mawphlang (116) and Pynthorumkhrah (101).
In West Garo Hills, officials distributed 4,513 forms on the opening day, while 147 completed forms were uploaded through the digitisation process.
The district has 3,96,914 registered electors, including 1,97,886 men, 1,99,027 women and one third-gender voter. Women outnumber male voters in the district by 1,141.
Phulbari recorded the largest distribution among the district’s 11 Assembly constituencies with 1,147 forms. Rajabala followed with 986 forms, while Raksamgre accounted for 792. Dadenggre registered the highest number of digitised forms at 66.
Officials called on voters to complete and return the enumeration forms within the prescribed period, saying public participation is essential for preparing updated electoral rolls.
