Guwahati: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will begin across Meghalaya on June 30, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) launching a month-long door-to-door verification drive to update the state’s voter database.

The exercise, which will continue until July 29, is part of the Election Commission‘s nationwide effort to ensure electoral rolls remain accurate, updated and free of errors ahead of future elections.

During the verification drive, BLOs will visit households in all 60 Assembly constituencies to distribute self-enumeration forms to electors whose names were included in the 2005 electoral rolls. The Election Commission has adopted the 2005 rolls as the reference point for the ongoing revision process.

Election officials said the exercise is intended to verify voter details, facilitate necessary corrections and ensure that all eligible citizens are properly enrolled in the electoral rolls.

Appealing for public cooperation, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal urged residents to assist BLOs during the verification process.

“The objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to include eligible voters, not exclude them,” Baranwal said, adding that active participation by citizens would help make the electoral rolls more comprehensive and accurate.

Officials also advised residents to keep relevant documents ready and promptly submit the completed self-enumeration forms to facilitate the verification process.

The Special Intensive Revision forms a key part of the Election Commission’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the integrity of the electoral process by maintaining updated and reliable voter lists across the country.
