Doomdooma: The process of preparing and revising the electoral rolls for the 2026 general elections to the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) has officially commenced in Tinsukia district following a notification issued by the Assam State Election Commission.

The revision exercise, covering six council constituencies, will culminate in the publication of the final electoral roll on August 3.

The electoral roll revision is being carried out under Rule 16 of the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (Election) Rules, 2010. January 1, 2026, has been fixed as the qualifying date for determining voter eligibility.

The revision will cover the six SKAC constituencies of Sadiya, Chabua, Dangari, Dirak Chumoni, Tinsukia, and Burhi Dihing.

In accordance with the state government’s delimitation notification, only the “Sonowal part” of villages falling within the jurisdiction of the council will be included in the electoral rolls.

Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will undertake the revision using the electoral roll published on November 17, 2025, as the base document and synchronising it with the latest Assembly electoral roll published on February 10, 2026.

A draft electoral roll will be prepared and published after the completion of the revision exercise.

According to the district administration, preliminary work is being carried out from June 23 to June 28, while the actual preparation and revision of the electoral rolls will take place from June 29 to July 9.

The draft electoral roll will be published on July 10. Eligible voters may submit claims and objections until July 25.

All claims and objections will be disposed of by August 1, after which the final electoral roll for the 2026 Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council elections will be published on August 3.

The district administration has appealed to all eligible electors in the six constituencies to verify their names and particulars in the draft electoral roll once it is published and to submit applications for inclusion, correction, or other necessary changes within the stipulated period to ensure a comprehensive, accurate, and transparent electoral roll ahead of the council elections.
