Dibrugarh: The Rotary Club of Dibrugarh visited flood-affected Maut Gaon in Assam’s Sivasagar district on Sunday and distributed relief materials among local residents.
Around 250 beneficiaries received stainless steel utensils and other essential items. The team also distributed special nutrition packets for pregnant and lactating women and floor mats.
The Rotary Club of Dibrugarh said it was supporting people affected by the recent floods in Sivasagar and neighbouring districts.
“We have witnessed the devastation and seen how people were affected in the flood. Our Rotary International is always there to help the people,” said Asim Kanti Adhikary, District Governor of Rotary International District 3240.
Adhikary visited the area from Santiniketan to assess the post-flood situation and explore ways to provide assistance through Rotary clubs in the region.
The distribution programme was held at the premises of Nine Story Foundation, headed by Rajiv Borgohain.
Assistant Governor, Zone 14, Nirza Saikia, PDG Kalpana Khound, Rotarians from Duliajan, Digboi and Dibrugarh, and retired Dibrugarh University faculty member Minoti Das attended the programme.
Adhikary was accompanied by Chandi Mondal.
Debojit Tanti, who rescued six people, including children, from floodwaters, was felicitated by Rotary Club of Dibrugarh president Amit Jasrasariya. PDG Kalpana Khound presented him with a token of appreciation.
