Imphal: A joint team of central security forces and the Manipur Police arrested three alleged extortionists linked to two banned insurgent outfits during separate anti-insurgency operations conducted in Thoubal and Imphal West districts, officials said.

The arrests were made following intelligence-based operations carried out over a period of more than 36 hours in vulnerable areas of the two districts. Security personnel also recovered dozens of extortion-related donation cards and a two-wheeler during the raids.

In the first operation, security forces apprehended two active cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party-Meeyamgi Fingang Lanmee (KCP-MFL) from Thoubal Bazar under Thoubal Police Station. The arrested individuals were identified as Abujam Sumit Singh alias Tangbi (20), a resident of Keishampat Thoudabhabok Leikai currently staying in Pheidinga, Imphal West district, and Makuchung Gangmei (23) of Khoupum Gahtao in Noney district.

Officials said 48 donation cards, allegedly used for extortion activities, were recovered from their possession.

In a separate operation, security personnel arrested an active cadre of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF-PLA), the political wing of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA), from Khuman Lampak near the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Imphal West district.

The accused, identified as Oinam Dhanaraj Singh alias Abung (29), hails from Leirongthel Pitra Yairipok under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Thoubal district. A Honda Activa scooter was seized from his possession at the time of arrest.

The arrested individuals, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to the respective police stations for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Officials said security forces continue to intensify operations across vulnerable areas of the state to curb insurgent activities, extortion networks, and other unlawful activities linked to banned militant organisations.
