Guwahati: The Dibrugarh district administration has imposed an indefinite ban on the sale of pork and pork-related products across the Moran Revenue Circle after 10 tissue samples collected from local markets tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF).
The order was issued by the Dibrugarh District Commissioner on October 25, following a report submitted by the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer. The samples were collected from various daily and weekly markets within the Moran Revenue Circle and subsequently tested at the North Eastern Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (NERDDL) in Guwahati.
Under the directive, all shops selling pork and related products in the area must remain closed until further notice. The order also prohibits the movement of pigs and pork-related products into and out of other districts.
The restrictions have been introduced as a preventive measure to contain the spread of African Swine Fever, a highly contagious viral disease that affects pigs.
The administration has warned that violations of the order may invite prosecution under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The directive has been issued under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and the state governmentโs action plan for the preparedness, control and containment of African Swine Fever.
Concerned departments and officials have been instructed to ensure strict implementation of the restrictions and raise public awareness about the measures.
The ban will remain in effect until the district administration issues further orders.
