Guwahati: As an interim relief step, the Arunachal Pradesh government has cleared the payment of monthly wages to 4,745 additional employees engaged under casual, work-related, and contingency service categories across various departments.

The decision comes after an official inquiry revealed widespread staffing beyond the sanctioned workforce limits in the state.

The probe, led by the Principal Secretary of the Public Works Department, identified 4,745 such employees, comprising 4,427 casual/contingency workers and 318 work-charged staff.

According to the findings, these appointments were made without proper approval and did not match authorised government posts.

While the administration is still reviewing the broader report through consultations between departments, it has chosen to withdraw the wage suspension that had been enforced since February 24.

Officials stated that the decision was driven by humanitarian considerations, aimed at offering temporary financial support to the affected workforce until a final policy framework is put in place.

To address the issue of irregular appointments, the state government is reviewing recommendations submitted by the Personnel Information Organisation (PIO).

These proposals call for a stricter system of post allocation at the level of Divisions and Drawing and Disbursing Officers, along with stronger restrictions on transferring personnel between zones, circles and divisions.

As per the notification, disbursement of salaries through district and sub-treasuries will be permitted only after a duly signed approval document confirms the authorised distribution of posts.

This confirmation must be signed jointly by the concerned head of department and the head of office.
