Imphal: Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) on Tuesday welcomed the release of 14 Kuki-Zo individuals who had been held since May 13 and expressed gratitude to government agencies, security forces and civil society organisations involved in securing their safe return.

In a statement, KIM thanked the Central and Manipur governments, the Director General of Police, Assam Rifles, the United Naga Council, the Naga Students’ Federation and other civil society organisations that participated in a meeting held in Senapati on June 7, which preceded the release of the hostages.

The organisation said the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders contributed to the safe release of the 14 individuals.

KIM also acknowledged the role played by Christian religious leaders from Nagaland and Manipur, stating that they had taken initiatives to facilitate the release of detainees on both sides following the killing of three Kuki-Zo pastors.

Referring to the release as an opportunity to reduce tensions, the organisation urged all communities to pursue peace and reconciliation, stating that enough blood had been shed and that an “eye for an eye” only makes the whole world blind.

KIM also appealed to Christians across communities to uphold truth, justice and love above prejudice and suspicion, and to ensure that their words and actions reflect their faith and commitment to truth.
