Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex representative body of the Kuki community in the state, has called for an immediate and impartial investigation into the killing of 57-year-old Rongmei Naga villager Chungjanglung Panmei.
According to KIM, the incident took place on June 8, 2026, in a forested stretch between Pongringlong and Pondaijang villages in Kangpokpi district, under the jurisdiction of the New Keithelmanbi Police Station.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the organisation clarified that the area where the killing occurred falls within Pongringlong and has neither Kuki settlements nor any Kuki presence. Stressing the need for a transparent probe, KIM urged the authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the incident are thoroughly examined and that those responsible are brought to justice.
The organisation further demanded comprehensive investigations into all crimes committed in Manipur since 2023, asserting that justice must be delivered to every victim regardless of ethnic or community affiliations. It expressed concern that the continued lack of accountability and effective action has deepened insecurity and uncertainty across the state.
KIM also expressed grief over the death of Chungjanglung Panmei and conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The organisation stated that no family should have to endure such a tragic loss and reiterated its call for justice and lasting peace in the region.
