President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Shaurya Chakra on Assam's Major Bhargav Kalita and Dhruva Jyoti Dutta for exceptional bravery.

Guwahati: Assam‘s contribution to the nation’s armed forces received national recognition as two distinguished servicemen from the state, Major Bhargav Kalita and Dhruva Jyoti Dutta, were awarded the Shaurya Chakra by President Droupadi Murmu for their outstanding acts of gallantry.

Major Bhargav Kalita earned the prestigious decoration for his exemplary leadership and fearless conduct during a high-risk counter-terrorism mission. His decisive actions and operational expertise played a crucial role in the successful execution of the operation under challenging circumstances.

Dhruva Jyoti Dutta was also honoured with the country’s third-highest peacetime gallantry award for displaying remarkable courage during an ambush in Manipur. Despite sustaining a bullet injury, he continued to act with determination and succeeded in rescuing eight fellow soldiers, preventing further casualties.

Congratulating the awardees, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised their unwavering commitment to duty and their extraordinary service to the nation. He said the recognition bestowed upon the two brave sons of Assam reflects the state’s proud legacy of producing courageous individuals dedicated to national security.

The conferment of the Shaurya Chakra on Major Kalita and Dutta underscores the dedication, resilience and sacrifice demonstrated by armed forces personnel who serve the country in difficult and often life-threatening situations.
