Guwahati: Kokrajhar Police have arrested a man accused of forging official documents in the names of senior Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) leaders to allegedly secure government contracts worth nearly Rs 30 crore.

The accused, identified as Rajiv Kumar Brahma, was arrested following allegations that he used forged letterheads and fake signatures of BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary and Executive Member Prakash Basumatary in connection with proposed contract allotments.

According to the allegations, the forged documents were used in an attempt to facilitate contracts worth Rs 20 crore under the Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes Department headed by Mohilary and another Rs 10 crore under the Social Welfare Department overseen by Basumatary.

Police launched an investigation after receiving a formal complaint from Basumatary and subsequently arrested Brahma.

Reacting to the incident, Basumatary called for strict legal action against all those involved in the alleged forgery. He said attempts to misuse the names and official authority of elected representatives for personal gain would not be tolerated.

Police said the investigation is continuing to determine whether other individuals were involved and to ascertain the full extent of the forgery operation.
