Speaking at the 6th anniversary of the agreement, he said that the Bodo community is still waiting for several promises to be fulfilled.

Guwahati: Hagrama Mohilary, leader of the Bodoland Peopleโ€™s Front (BPF) and head of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), said on Tuesday that the unfinished parts of the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord will soon be taken up with both the Assam government and the Centre.

Speaking at the 6th anniversary of the agreement, he said that the Bodo community is still waiting for several promises to be fulfilled.

The 2020 Bodo Peace Accord, signed by the Government of India, the Assam government, and all factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), brought an end to years of conflict in the region and set the stage for development and stability.

Political leaders, community representatives, and civil society members attended events at the BTC Legislative Assembly Auditorium, Bodofa Nwgwr, in Kokrajhar to mark the anniversary.

Mohilary explained that some important parts of the agreement have not yet been carried out. These include giving the BTC more authority over finances and administration through constitutional changes, providing Scheduled Tribe (Hills) status to Bodo-Kachari communities in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong, and adding new villages to the Bodoland Territorial Region.

The remaining work involves reintegrating former NDFB members, addressing the situation of individuals associated with the armed movement, and restructuring governance at council, municipal, and village levels.

He assured that talks with the Assam government will begin soon to address these issues and said that the development work promised in the accord will be rolled out gradually.

Experts and community leaders say that completing the Bodo Peace Accord is essential for lasting peace, fair development, and political stability in the Bodoland region.
