Imphal: Imphal West Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO) Mayanglambam Rajkumar has said that discrepancies have been detected in around 2.6 lakh voter records in the district during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Speaking to reporters at his office on Wednesday, Rajkumar said the district administration has intensified the verification exercise in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure accurate and error-free electoral rolls.
He informed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs), under the supervision of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), are conducting door-to-door verification, examining voter details, holding hearings and issuing notices wherever discrepancies are found before any further action is taken.
On the inclusion of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the revision process, the DEO said 1,684 enumeration forms were sent through the Chief Electoral Officer’s office to the concerned district authorities, of which 470 forms were received by the Imphal West administration.
Responding to queries regarding the nature of the discrepancies, Rajkumar clarified that most cases involve minor clerical issues, including spelling errors and differences in surnames, rather than serious irregularities.
The district administration is working in coordination with the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur, and the ECI to complete the revision process smoothly. Rajkumar also urged political parties, local organisations and community leaders to extend cooperation, assuring that displaced voters would receive necessary support to ensure that no eligible voter is deprived of the right to vote.
