Doomdooma: Two alleged bookies were arrested during a late-night raid conducted on Thursday under the jurisdiction of Doomdooma Police Station in Assam’s Tinsukia district, police confirmed on Friday.
The operation, carried out at Borhapjan following specific intelligence inputs, led to the seizure of cash, gold jewellery, mobile phones, and suspected betting-related digital records.
โA case bearing number 76/2026 has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS, and further investigation is underway,โ Rahul Gogoi, the investigating officer in the case, told Northeast Now over the phone.
Police identified the arrested accused as Anil Prasad (46) and Amirul Islam (40). Investigators claimed that both were caught red-handed while allegedly operating an IPL betting network.
โBased on secret information regarding ongoing IPL betting activities, a raid was conducted under the direction of Tinsukia SSP Mayank Kumar Jha. The operation successfully exposed an IPL betting racket operating from Borhapjan under Doomdooma Police Station,โ a senior police officer said.
The officer further stated that Anil Prasad was previously booked in an IPL betting-related case at Tinsukia Police Station, while Amirul Islam had an earlier case registered at Doomdooma Police Station.
During the search operation, police seized nearly ?53,000 in cash, around 30 grams of gold, 300 grams of silver, an Artica vehicle, an iPhone, and two additional mobile phones.
Investigators also claimed to have recovered multiple betting applications, master IDs, digital cash transaction records, and client details from the seized devices.
