Imphal: The sleuths of Manipur’s Narcotics and Border Affairs (NAB) along with central security forces, in a joint operation, arrested two alleged drug smugglers and an insurgent cadre, recovering illegal drugs in separate operations across two valley districts on Saturday.
Acting on a reliable tip-off, the joint team intercepted a four-wheeler on the state highway near Pole Star College under Hiyanglam Police Station in Kakching district, officials reported on Sunday.
During a follow-up search, the team seized 13 soap cases containing suspected heroin/brown sugar (weighing approximately 147 grams) and Rs 52,000 in cash.
The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested for further investigation into the source of the illicit items and their intended destination. They were identified as Md. Salim (31) and Md. Nawab (32), both residents of Kairang Mayai Leikai, Kairang Muslim, Imphal East district.
In a separate operation, security forces apprehended an active cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist PartyโApunba (KCP-A) group.
The individual was identified as Rex Thoudam alias Machatombi (23), originally from Palace Compound, Heijingang Road, Imphal East, and currently residing at Kakwa Naorem Leikai, Imphal West. He was taken into custody from his locality under the jurisdiction of Singjamei Police Station.
The arrestees, impounded vehicle, and seized items are currently being held at their respective police stations for further legal proceedings, police added.
