Guwahati: Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi will visit India to attend the BRICS Foreign Ministersโ Meeting on May 14 and 15, marking a significant step in strengthening diplomatic ties between India and Iran.
Tehran confirmed the visit amid ongoing diplomatic engagements between the two countries and broader regional developments.
During recent interactions, Araghchi reiterated Tehranโs resolve to exercise its โlegitimate right of self-defenceโ, according to Iranian officials.
The summit in New Delhi is expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to build on recent diplomatic momentum following Araghchiโs visit to India in May 2025 โ his first trip to the country after assuming office in August 2024.
During the two-day visit, the Iranian Foreign Minister co-chaired the 20th India-Iran Joint Commission Meeting with Indian officials. The discussions focused on expanding political, strategic and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The meetings, held on May 7 and 8 last year, also marked the 75th anniversary of the India-Iran Friendship Treaty.
Officials from both sides reviewed the overall bilateral relationship and explored new avenues for cooperation across multiple sectors, including connectivity, trade and regional security.
