Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang said students should not work as agents of any political party and there is a force involved in vilifying the people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

Ronghang said, “There are people who always portray the hill districts of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao in negative light with false information. They want to portray these three hill districts of Assam as the worst places. Take for instance, Dima Hasao district was blamed for a Rs 1000 crore scam when the district has only Rs 70 crore annual budget that comes from the State Government.”

Pointing to the vilification of Karbi Anglong in a section of the media, he said, “Karbi Anglong is also being falsely blamed. The activity of some criminals is being used to portray Karbi Anglong as the worst district whereas the hill tribe people are just simple and innocent. Take for instance the Panjuri Kachari Gaon lynching case, where a community or tribe as a whole is being blamed. Karbi Anglong is presented as an unsafe place.”

He said that there are incidences in Guwahati city as well where a woman was stripped naked and paraded in public on the streets. For the fault of some groups of people a whole district or a particular community or tribe cannot be blamed.

They should be independent. Division should not be created between the people of Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts on the long standing demand of Autonomous State and should be united.”
