Hills Tribal League (HTL) organised a leadership meet here at Karbi Lammet Amei on Saturday where members of constituent organisations participated.

During the meeting, the Hills Tribal League reiterated its opposition to ST(H) status for the Bodos living in the hill districts of the State.

The meet was organized to strengthen HTL and plan for future course of action.

HTL convenor Khorsing Teron briefed about the activities carried out by the HTL.

Teron said, “HTL, a conglomeration of various social organisations of hill tribe people was formed on August 8, 2011 on the issue of granting ST (H) status to Bodo Kacharis living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts as mentioned in Clause 8 of Accord of Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) signed with the Central Government.”

Khorsing Teron was the founding president. There are more than 30 social organisations of hill tribe people as constituent members.

Teron said, “The HTL has opposed granting of ST (H) status to Bodos in hill districts of Assam by submitting a memorandum to the then Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Ranee Narah.”

He added, “The HTL also opposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 by submitting a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. It also opposed imposition of Assamese in all schools in the State.”

Teron also informed that the HTL has supported the demand of separate electoral roll for conduct of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) elections in Karbi Anglong and demanded immediate cancellation of Havarpi Tourist Complex, Lumding Road, Diphu allotted to Bangalaore based NGO Vyakti Vikash India Trust/Art of Living.

Karbi Longri & NC Hills Liberation Front (KLNCHF) chairman P Dilli, Karbi Cultural Society, president Chandrasing Kro, Karbi Lammet Amei vice president Hukursing Rongpi, general secretary of HTL, Saising Rongpi along with leaders of various social organizations attended the meet.
