The Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) remembered its former president Bineswar Brahma on the occasion of his 18th death anniversary by organising a day-long programme at his burial place, Chandamari, in Kokrajhar on Sunday.

Organized under the aegis of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), in association with the Bineswar Brahma Charitable Trust, BSS president Toren Boro hoisted the organizational flag in the morning followed by paying homage to Bineswar Brahma at his tomb.

A memorial lecture on the contribution of Bineswar Brahma in the field of Bodo language and literature was held during the function.

In his speech, BSS president Toren Boro said Bineswar Brahma was a leader of extraordinary stature in the BSS as well as in the Bodo community. As a president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, he worked for the uplift and development of the Bodo language.

A souvenir titled ‘Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma’ was also released on the occasion.

Bineswar Brahma was shot dead at his Bhetapara residence in Guwahati on August 19 in 2000.

Former MP Urkao Gwra Brahma, who is president of United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) said, “Bineswar Brahma was a great leader for our Bodo community who convinced the Delhi national leaders to include the Bodo language in the 8th schedule as an Indian language.”

BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyary, BTC Executive Members Doneswar Goyary, Rajib Kumar Brahma, Ex-presidents of All Assam Tribal Sangha Ranjit Kumar Borgoyary and members of All Bodo Students Union were among those who participated in the programme.
