Imphal: In an intensified anti-insurgency operation, joint teams of central and state police arrested five insurgents, including a female recruiter, and recovered rocket launchers, explosives, military weapons, and heroin/brown sugar in Manipur on Saturday, officials reported on Sunday.
During the first operation, the joint team arrested three individuals from the Lilong Bazar area along NH-102 under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district.
They were identified as Md. Abdul Gafar @ Thoi (22) of Kiyamgei Takhok Makha, Md. Boicha (23) of Lilong Leihaokhong, and Kh. Akip @ Aki (23) of Kiyamgei Takhok Makha. From their possession, the following items were recovered: one 9 mm pistol along with a magazine, seven 9 mm live rounds, 494 grams of heroin/brown sugar, four mobile phones, and a Hyundai Creta.
Reports stated that in a second operation, an active woman cadre of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA), involved in recruiting for the proscribed outfit, was apprehended.
Identified as Khangembam (O) Auna Devi alias Ibeyaima (43) of Kumbi Ishing Chaiba Leikai in Bishnupur district, she was nabbed from the Sawombung Forest Gate area under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district.
A mobile phone was seized from her possession.
In a third operation, security forces arrested an active cadre of the outlawed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from the Wangkhei Andro Parking area under Porompat Police Station.
He was identified as Thiyam Athoi Meitei alias Athouba (24) of Chanam Sandrok Mayai Leikai under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East district.
Finally, security forces recovered one country-made rocket (approximately 7 feet long) containing about 60 kg of explosives, one country-made single-barrel gun, seven 7.62 mm empty cases, four magazines, one mortar bomb, and one improvised mortar (pumpi) from Old Nabil, east of Thangjing Top, under Henglep Police Station in Churachandpur district.
