Guwahati: KSU vice-president Pynkmenlang Sanmiet was granted 20 daysโ€™ interim bail by a local court on medical grounds on Wednesday, allowing him to consult his treating doctors and undergo a procedure recommended for his health condition.

Sanmiet was released from Shillong District Jail following the courtโ€™s order.

Speaking to reporters after his release, Sanmiet said he had been experiencing health complications since July and had earlier received treatment at Bethany Hospital. He said he was discharged after several days but was advised to return for a follow-up medical examination two weeks later.

According to Sanmiet, subsequent tests and medical reports led doctors to recommend that he undergo the required procedure within six weeks. However, he was arrested before he could complete the treatment.

โ€œDuring these 20 days, I will try my best to consult the doctors who have been treating me at Bethany Hospital,โ€ he said.

Sanmiet said he continues to experience nosebleeds, high blood pressure, migraine, severe headaches and shortness of breath.

He also expressed gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at Shillong District Jail for providing him with medical assistance during his period in custody.

Meanwhile, KSU general secretary Reuben Najiar had earlier been granted 14 daysโ€™ interim bail following the death of his father. He returned to jail on October 1 after the temporary bail period ended.
