Guwahati: As tensions rise in parts of Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma called on residents to remain calm and address conflicts through dialogue instead of violence.

In a video address, he revealed that he had been alerted about certain groups and individuals reportedly moving toward his home with intentions to damage the property and threaten his family. Following the information, security personnel advised him to move to a safer location as a precaution.

Despite the warnings, the Chief Minister chose to remain at his residence.

I was told to relocate for safety, but I decided to stay. I am not afraid,โ€ he said, demonstrating his determination to face the tense situation.

He also expressed his trust in divine protection, stating, โ€œUltimately, my life is in the hands of the Lord,โ€ while reaffirming his dedication to serving the people of Meghalaya.

Proudly identifying as an Aยทchik (Garo), Sangma said he draws inspiration from the legacy of his late father, P. A. Sangma, whose values and guidance continue to motivate him to work for the welfare and development of the community.

โ€œI am deeply connected to my people and remain committed to serving with honesty, integrity, and dedication,โ€ he added.

The Chief Minister expressed concern over recent incidents of unrest, noting that acts of vandalism and property damage have occurred in multiple areas. Government buildings, religious sites, and private homes have reportedly been affected.

โ€œThese actions go against the principles and values that define our society,โ€ he said, urging citizens to exercise restraint.

Sangma stressed that violence and destruction would only escalate the situation and called on people to pursue peaceful and democratic avenues to resolve disputes.

โ€œThe challenges we face can be addressed through constructive dialogue and engagement,โ€ he said.

He appealed to the public to uphold democratic institutions and place the collective welfare of the community and the state above individual interests.

Ending his message, the Chief Minister called on all sections of society to unite in restoring harmony and appealed sincerely for peace and calm throughout Meghalaya.
