Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday advocated the adoption of more durable road construction technologies to address the stateโ€™s challenging climatic conditions.

Chairing a review meeting with officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to assess the progress of National Highway projects in Mizoram, Lalduhoma conveyed the state governmentโ€™s intention to shift to โ€œrigid pavementโ€ technology.

Unlike conventional asphalt surfaces, rigid pavement โ€” a concrete-based technology, is expected to better withstand Mizoramโ€™s intense monsoon and high rainfall, which frequently cause road damage and disruptions.

The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for the Centreโ€™s continued support for the stateโ€™s infrastructure initiatives.

The meeting reviewed the status of key highway projects being implemented by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the stateโ€™s Public Works Department (PWD). Discussions covered ongoing works, completed milestones, and logistical challenges arising from Mizoramโ€™s rugged terrain.

The review meeting was attended by PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Lalthansanga, and Revenue Minister B. Lalchhanzova, along with senior state government officials and representatives of the highway authorities.
