Assam Projects
The Centre sanctioned the projects under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and the Setu Bandhan scheme.

Guwahati: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on February 13 approved Rs 747.72 crore for 26 road and bridge projects in Assam. The Centre sanctioned the projects under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and the Setu Bandhan scheme.

Out of the total allocation, authorities approved Rs 677.98 crore for 10 road development projects under the CRIF scheme. In addition, the government sanctioned Rs 129.74 crore for bridge projects under the Setu Bandhan scheme. These investments aim to strengthen road and bridge infrastructure across the state.

The projects will significantly improve regional connectivity. They will also enhance transportation efficiency and reduce travel time. Moreover, the initiatives are expected to boost economic growth by facilitating smoother movement of goods and commuters across Assam.

Gadkari said the projects will accelerate infrastructure development in the state. He added that better connectivity will bridge gaps between remote and urban areas. This, in turn, will support broader socio-economic progress.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 12 inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several development projects during his visit to Majuli.

During the programme, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Majuliโ€“Jorhat connecting highway. He also opened multiple infrastructure facilities. These include the academic building and girlsโ€™ hostel of Majuli Cultural University. He further inaugurated the integrated office complex housing the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and District Transport Officer.

In addition, Sarma inaugurated a Government Model Degree College, the Dakhinpat Satra Museum, and the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex. These facilities aim to strengthen the districtโ€™s administrative, educational, and cultural infrastructure.

Collectively, the projects are worth over Rs 2,200 crore. The government expects them to improve public services in the river island district. Authorities also said the initiatives will play a key role in strengthening long-term infrastructure development in Majuli.
