Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has carried out multiple rescue operations across its network between January 24 and January 28, 2026, through the Railway Protection Force (RPF), rescuing 12 vulnerable passengers, including eight minors and four adults.
According to NFR, the rescue operations were conducted at several railway stations and onboard trains under its jurisdiction.
The rescued individuals included runaway minor girls and boys, destitute children, and unattended passengers who were found travelling alone or in distress.
These cases were detected during routine station surveillance as well as through complaints received via RailMadad.
Major rescue operations were carried out at West Bengal’s Falakata; Assam’s Lumding, Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, Kamakhya, and Guwahati; and Bihar’s Kishanganj and Katihar (East) railway stations.
All rescued minors were handed over to the concerned Child Line units and recognised child care organisations for further care and rehabilitation.
The rescued adults were produced before the respective local police authorities for necessary action, NFR said.
The railway authorities stated that the operations highlight the coordination and vigilance of RPF personnel in ensuring passenger safety, particularly for children and other vulnerable individuals. NFR has reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe and secure railway operations.
Passengers have been urged to immediately inform RPF personnel or use RailMadad in case they notice unattended minors or any suspicious situations at stations or on trains, to enable timely intervention.
