Guwahati: Her Majesty Gyalyum Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, Queen Mother of Bhutan, has been selected for the 22nd Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award, 2025, in recognition of her lifelong humanitarian work. The award ceremony will be held on February 3, 2026, at the Jwhwlao Nileswar Brahma Auditorium, Bodoland University, Kokrajhar.
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya will be the chief guest, while Hagrama Mohilary, chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council, will attend as the special guest.
Instituted in memory of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, the visionary leader of the Bodo community, the Soldier of Humanity Award has been presented annually since 2004 to individuals who have rendered exceptional service to society beyond regional and national boundaries. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000, along with a citation and a memento honoring Bodofaโs enduring legacy.
Her Majesty Gyalyum Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck is internationally renowned for her compassionate leadership. As founding president of the Tarayana Foundation, she has spearheaded rural development initiatives in Bhutan, focusing on poverty alleviation, womenโs empowerment, education, healthcare, and cultural preservation. She has also played a pivotal role in nurturing Bhutanโs literary and cultural heritage.
The programme on February 3 will include the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, a floral tribute to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, and addresses by key dignitaries, including the chairman of the UNB Trust, the president of ABSU, the president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, BTC leaders, and the governor of Assam. The award presentation to Her Majesty will be the highlight of the event.
In a gesture of humility, Her Majesty will accept the award on behalf of the people of Bhutan, recognising the nationโs collective dedication to peace and humanitarian service.
The occasion marks a historic convergence of Bhutanese royalty and Indian state leadership, celebrating the vision and legacy of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma. Revered as the โFather of the Bodos,โ Bodofa devoted his life to the socio-political and educational empowerment of the Bodo community and other marginalized groups. His philosophy of non-violence and human rights continues to guide the work of the UNB Trust.
