Imphal: The Anti Narcotic Task Forces (ANTF) of the central and state forces in Manipur have intensified campaigns against contraband drugs, leading to the arrest of five alleged smugglers and the seizure of drugs valued at approximately Rs 1.4 crore from local markets.
Officials on Thursday reported that the arrests and seizures were made at different locations across three districts of Manipur over the past 36 hours.
During the first phase of the operation, the joint team arrested two residents of Chandel district along with contraband items from Pallel Makha Leikai Pathabi, near Pallel IVR Road, under Kakching Police Station in Kakching district.
Veromica Moyon (28) of Thangkin Village and Chihanring Shinglai (32) of Thotchanram Village were arrested along with a two-wheeler, 25 soap cases of Heroin No. 4 powder weighing approximately 299 grams, and two mobile phones.
In the second phase of the anti-drug drive, two alleged smugglers, Letkhothang Haokip (30) and Robert Lunminthang Haokip (20), both residents of Mobi village under Molcham Police Station in Chandel district, were apprehended.
From them, officials recovered one two-wheeler (Kenbo bike), 22 soap cases containing brown sugar, a derivative of heroin, weighing approximately 300 grams, a power bank, two debit cards, Rs 2,800, three keys, and one Aadhaar card.
In the last phase of the operation, an alleged smuggler identified as Avio S of Katafimai Village, Senapati district, was captured at the Tadubi-PS Naka Check Point along NH-2 in Senapati district.
Recovered from him were a white Bolero four-wheeler bearing registration number NL-07-CB-1151, 20 soap cases containing brown sugar weighing 805 grams, a mobile phone, and one Aadhaar card.
Reports stated that one gram of heroin powder is available at Rs 1,000 in the black markets of Manipur.
