Imphal: Central security forces and Manipur police carried out a joint counterinsurgency operation on Monday, recovering arms, ammunition, and explosives in Kangpokpi and Kakching districts, officials said on Tuesday.

The operation began in the early hours in the hill range area between Wainem and Aigejang under New Keithelmanbi police station in Kangpokpi district, where security forces targeted a militant camp linked to Anti-National Elements (ANEs). During the campaign, the team seized five bolt-action rifles, a pistol and a .22 mm pistol, both with empty magazines, seven 12-bore cartridges, two .22 mm rounds, and a pompi with a corresponding round.

In a second phase of the operation, security forces recovered additional items from the Sugnu area under Sugnu police station in Kakching district, including two Baofeng handsets and one P-cap.

Officials said all recovered weapons and equipment were handed over to the relevant police stations for further legal proceedings.
