Imphal: A joint security force in Manipur recovered 54 grams of WY tablets (methamphetamine) from a house at Kairang Masjid Maning under Heingang police station, Imphal East district, on Thursday, officials reported on Friday.
The owner of the house, a drug smuggler named Md. Bashir (39), and his wife, Sajida (33), fled the scene when the joint team from central and state forces arrived.
The operation was based on intelligence inputs that some anti-social elements were loitering in and around the suspected location for illegal activities, especially drug-related cases.
During the one-hour operation, the joint team also recovered a two-wheeler, Hero Honda Glamour, bearing registration number MN-01D-1786, along with the illegal substances from the premises.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2023, was registered in this regard.
The police said they have sought the assistance of the public in arresting the fleeing husband-wife duo and urged them to surrender to the competent authorities at the earliest.
