A 100-seater Girls Hostel at Rowta, in Udalguri was inaugurated recently. The hostel was opened to provide accomodation facilities to girl students the Amalgamated Plantations Private Industrial Training Institute (APPITI).

The hostel has been donated by the Assam Investment Fund and constructed within a record time of 8-months since the laying of its foundation stone in November 2017.

A digital classroom under CSR programme for school and college going students of the neighborhood was also inaugurated by Mazbat MLA, Charan Boro. The 100 seated hostel was inaugurated by Chairman of Amalgamated Plantations Pvt. Ltd., Ranjit Barthakur.

The APPITI, Rowta was established in 1997 and is currently operated jointly by APPL Foundation and Gram Tarang Employability Training Services (GTETS).

It offers short term placement linked training programs in high demand sectors like Sewing Machine Operator, Industrial Fitter, Driving, etc.

All these trainings are provided free of cost to the trainee from the BPL category with programs funded by government schemes DDU-GKY, ASDM, ASRLM etc. and CSR projects of NRL, OIL, Sadbhavna etc.

The centre has trained about 2000 candidates since 2015 in various trades. The girls hostel has residential facility specifically for women candidates to cater to the growing demand of women candidates.

The Managing Trustee of APPL Foundation, Dhiraj Kakati extended his gratitude to the Chairman and Board Members of the Assam Investment Fund for this donation which would go a long way for the overall upliftment of marginalized women in the state.
