A joint statement released by the agitating community said, ‘a joint meeting of the executive members of Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA), Manipur University Students’ Union and Manipur University Staffs’ Association was held on Wednesday at MUTA office’.

Taking serious note on the brutal force used against the democratically agitating students, the bodies strongly condemned the actions of the state police stating the manner will even put the animal kingdom to shame.
The members in the meeting have expressed ‘suspicion on the government’s attempts to cause permanent casualty to some students to somehow divert the present democratic and peaceful movement towards any unhealthy direction’, the statement added.
The release also stated that the structure of the reconstituted fact-finding committee is an absolute ‘insult to the intelligence of the people of the State in general and the university community in particular’.
While the appointment of a retired acting chief justice as chairman of the committee is laudable, yet it felt dismayed by the amorphous nature of the reconstituted committee as neither independent nor judicial.
The bodies re-emphasized the non-negotiable demand for immediate removal of Pandey to be coupled by an investigation from an ‘independent high power committee’ to establish accountability for the financial and administrative misdeeds committed during his tenure, the release further added.
