Dibrugarh: Locals in the Bogibeel area of Dibrugarh, Assam assaulted five individuals accusing them of being cattle lifters.

The five persons were identified as Vicky Hussain, Rahul Rai, Saiful Islam, Latu Das and Kiran Das.

Police said that the locals based on suspicion apprehended the five travelling in an SUV (a Mahindra Scorpio).

The locals chased the five based on suspicion and “detained” them for allegedly being involved in cattle lifting.

Interestingly, the vehicle they were travelling on had a motorcycle registration on it.

The locals after finding out that they may be involved in cattle lifting, trashed them before handing them to the police.

Police said that the suspects confessed that they were involved in cattle lifting before the agitated public.

However, the police said that they are investigating the claims.

The accused had also claimed to have been working for one Atikur Ali of Naliapool area in Dibrugarh, Assam.

They also said that they get an amount of Rs 3000-4000 a month.

Sources said Atikur Ali is the main cattle smuggler who has engaged these henchmen to work for him and help him lift stray cattle.
