Guwahati: The Assam Police on Friday seized opium, estimated to be worth over Rs 1 crore in the international market, in Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

Based on a tip-off, the police intercepted a truck at the Six Mile area under jurisdiction of the Dilai police station.

The truck was on its way to Assam’s Guwahati from Manipur.

During a thorough search of the truck, the team of police recovered 12 packets of opium from the vehicle’s dashboard.

The police arrested the driver of the truck, identified as Amit Singh, and seized the narcotic substance.  

A case has been registered at the Dilai police station regarding the matter.
