Urban downhill mountain biking competitions are races where the competitor race individually down closed streets, stairways and sometimes off-road sections.

The fastest time wins the race. Urban downhill requires great skill and precision.

A series of urban downhill races are held in cities like Valparaiso in Chile, Medellin in Colombia and Mexico’s Guanajuato.

The courses are designed to test riders’ skills on concrete, corners and stairs.

Courses can be thrilling, with riders sometimes racing down rooftops, through buildings and down tight alleyways.

There is usually only a short amount of practice allowed on the course before the race and usually a qualifying run before the race.
