Tea garden labourers of all the tea estates in Bokakhat sub-division of Golaghat district staged a demonstration in respective gardens early Wednesday morning.

The demonstration was in response to the call made by the tea labourers’s union demanding hike in their wages.

The hour long demonstration garnered spontaneous response from the labourers of all the tea gardens in the sub-division.

All the labourers staged  the hour long demonstration in front of the offices of their respective tea gardens before joining in their daily work.

The tea garden employees have been demanding a hike in their daily wages to Rs 350. However, the present State Government has not given a heed to their long-pending demands for the last years.

This has irked the tea garden labourers forcing them to take the agitational path.

The tea garden labourers of all the tea estates in Bokakhat sub-division protested waving their union banner and also submitted memoranda to their respective garden management regarding their demand.

The president of the sub-divisional unit of the union of tea garden workers, Mamni Gajlu joined the protest demonstration at the Lakhoujaan tea estate while the secretary Tapan Karmakar joined the fellow protestors at the Numaligarh tea estate.
