Assam swimmer Bikram Changmai created a new national record at the Junior and Sub-junior Aquatic Championship that concludes on Friday at the  Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Complex of Balewadi at Mahalunge in Pune.

Hailing from Bokakhat in Assam’s Golaghat district, Bikram won the gold medal in the 200 metre butterfly category by breaking the previous record and setting a new record.

Apart from this individual record, Bikram also created new national record in the 4×100 metres freestyle and 4×200 metres freestyle by winning gold in both the categories.

He   also bagged the silver medal in the 50 metres butterfly, 50 metres breaststroke category and 4×100 metre rally category.

The championship began on June 24 last and concludes on Friday.

Bikram is the youngest son of Santanu Changmai and Mintu Changmai of Bokakhat.

He is presently studying in ninth standard of Dr Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in the national capital.

Locals of Bokakhat are naturally elated at this grand success of Bikram Changmai.
