SHILLONG: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma clarified that colleges in the state are not obligated to affiliate with the Captain Williamson Sangma State University, dispelling any confusion surrounding the matter.
Speaking to the media, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma said that there is no mandatory requirement for colleges to affiliate with either the Captain Williamson Sangma State University or the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).

He stressed that the decision to affiliate is entirely up to the colleges themselves.
However, the Meghalaya chief minister stated that colleges opting to remain affiliated with NEHU would necessitate students to continue taking the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admissions.
Sangma explained that the transformation of the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University into a full-fledged State university was initiated before his government came into power in Meghalaya.
