Guwahati: As the political situation turns out to be heated in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa on Tuesday claimed that state Congress chief Bhupen Borah would join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2025.
Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma speaking to the media in Lakhimpur said that he was sure that in 2025 Bhupen Borah would join the BJP.
He made the statement while responding to a question where he was asked if he would face Bhupen Borah as an opponent in the 2026 Assembly elections.

It may be mentioned that Borah had earlier claimed that in 2026 he would contest against Himanta Biswa Sarma if the party’s high command permits.
The CM replying to the question said that that was not possible as Borah would also be a “member of the BJP in 2026”.

He further claimed that by 2026 there would be no Congress in the Hindu-majority areas and by 2032, it (Congress) would also be “removed” from the Muslim-majority area.
Sarma further speaking about the resignation of MLA Bharat Narah from the Congress hinted towards a possibility of him joining the BJP.
He said that the phones of both Bharat Narah and his wife Ranee Narah are switched off and there have been no proper discussions about them joining the BJP.
He, however, hinted that after the nominations of candidates belonging to the BJP is filled, there might be a possibility of them (Narahs) joining the BJP.
It may be mentioned that after the Congress had denied the tickets to Ranee Narah on Sunday, her husband Bharat Narah resigned from the Congress.
However, both of them did not make any official statement regarding the move and have not come forward to the media yet.
The Chief Minister stated that before the resignation, Ranee Narah had camped in Delhi but did not reveal much about the motive.
