The National Book Trust (NBT), India, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in association with the Directorate of Education (U), Government of Manipur and Saheed Madhumangal Foundation will organise Imphal Book Fair at DM College of Science, Imphal from May 26 to June 3, 2018.

“The objective of holding the book fair is to create awareness about reading habits among the common people,” said Assistant Director (Exhibition) Mayank Surolia of NBT, India. “More than 70 publishers and book sellers from different parts of India will be participating in the 9-day Book Fair,” said Surolia.

NBT, India has been organising 40-45 national book fairs and 300 regional book fairs across the country besides popular Delhi Fair wherein more than 2000 book stalls from prominent publishing houses use to participate annually, Surolia said while briefing media persons at the Manipur Press Club on Thursday.

NBT book lover’s membership cards and other forms of book lovers of cards will also be delivered during the upcoming book fair so that the card holders can buy NBT books at a discount rate, he added.

“So, those, who love to order our books in bunch online, can also order online through our sites,” he informed, adding, “Besides, we are also planning to open a NBT centre in the State.”

NBT, India, engaged in the promotion of books within the country and abroad as part of its commitment to promote books and provide ample opportunities to both the publishers and book sellers to reach to students, community and public at large under one roof, has been organising 1100 exhibitions across the country since 1993.

The upcoming Imphal Book Fair will be inaugurated by the Manipur Assembly Speaker Y Khemchand at the premises of DM College of Science at 3pm on May 26.

Education Minister Th Radheshyam, Arts and Culture minister L Jayentakumar, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Himachal Pradesh Prof (Dr) Kuldip Chand Agnihotri, Director of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Prof Ramjeevan Singh Thakur of Manipur Campus, Chairperson of Saheed Madhumangal Foundation D Satyabhama Devi and Sahitya Academy member K Radhakumar will also attend the inaugural function of the book fair.
