โ€œPrime Minister Modi and home minister Shah had personally steered the BJPโ€™s campaign there but the election results indicate that it is a moral defeat for them,โ€ Gogoi said.

AJP general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan said people have given a โ€œbefitting reply to the BJPโ€™s politics of polarisationโ€.

The โ€œfailureโ€ of the BJP government in the state and the โ€œalleged corruption chargesโ€ against Karnakata Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai led to โ€œdisillusionment among the electorates and they voted against the saffron partyโ€, said the AJP.
