GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday formally inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Changsari near Guwahati.
He dedicated the AIIMS to the nation.
The foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Modi in May 2017.
The ambitious project has been built at a cost of more than Rs 1,120 crores.
The hospital will start operating with 150 beds from April 14 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit, said a top official of the premier medical facility.
After the inauguration, Modi inspected the newly constructed buildings of the first AIIMS in the Northeast.
He exuded confidence that launch of AIIMS Guwahati will strengthen medical infrastructure in the Northeast.
Later, addressing a mammoth gathering at the venue, Modi said, “No matter where I go and talk about the development in India.
“Some people complain that they have not received any credit when they ruled.
“The previous government was hungry for credit,” Modi alleged.
He said, “On the auspicious occasion of Bihu, Assam and entire Northeast gets AIIMS and other healthcare infrastructure projects.”
He also said social infrastructure has significantly improved in the Northeast in last nine years.
“We work with ‘Seva Bhaav’ for the people,” said Modi.
Modi further added that the policy, intentions and loyalty in his government are not determined by any selfishness but by the spirit of ‘nation first, countryman first’.

Immediately after, Prime Minister Modi virtually inaugurated three medical colleges at Nalbari, Nagaon and Kokrajhar in Assam.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Guwahati at around 11:30 am.
He was received at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by state chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Assam on Friday to also dedicate Rs 14,300 crore development projects on the first day of the state’s spring festival ‘Rongali Bihu’ and Assamese New Year.
PM Modi is also expected to sign an agreement with IIT-Guwahati with primary focus on collaboration on artificial intelligence, robotics, low-cost equipment, cloud computing and digitalization.
The Prime Minister is also attending the platinum jubilee celebration of Gauhati High Court.
