After the BJP had accused Barpeta’s MP Abdul Khaleque of being a part of an international conspiracy, Khaleque on Sunday alleged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of being involved in a conspiracy.
The senior Congress leader and MP, Khaleque said, “Although the BJP claims to be a nationalist party, I doubt that. I would say that the Congress and I are more nationalist than the BJP.”
He added, “I say so because we believe in inclusive development and wellbeing of everyone in the country, unlike the BJP which is engaged in only divisive issues.”
He further claimed that he was just an MLA in the Congress while it was in Government but Himanta Biswa Sarma was a minister even then and so there are chances of him (Sarma) being a part of a conspiracy.

“How can I be a conspirator when I was just an MLA”, he added.
Khaleque further claimed that Sarma was not just Assam’s CM, he was also Khaleque’s CM.
“I felt that he was going in a wrong direction and in order to bring him to the right path, I have to file an FIR over his communal statements”, he added.
Abdul Khaleque had lodged a complaint with the Dispur police station against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly making a provocative speech against Muslims.
While referring to a part of the Chief Minister Sarma’s speech in Morigaon district on December 10, where he purportedly described the Gorukhuti eviction exercise as an “act of revenge” for the incidents of 1983, Khaleque accused chief minister Sarma of giving a “communal colour to what was supposed to be an executive exercise”.
The Assam government carried out a massive eviction drive at Dhalpur in the Gorkhuti area under the Sipajhar police station in Darrang district against hundreds of Muslim families in September.

Earlier Subash Dutta, Assam BJP spokesperson in a statement said, “During the Assam agitation indigenous people were killed in Gorukhuti and Abdul Khaleque supporting encroachment by immigrants has proved the Congress’s agenda against the indigenous people of the state.”
The BJP also alleged that Khaleque was a part of an international conspiracy that aimed to derail the government’s efforts to make Assam encroachment free.
