Elephant menace in the state continues as, on Friday, at least seven houses in Baksa district’s Tamulpur area were destroyed by a herd of wild elephants.
Locals said that the elephants have been coming to the village for a long time and there have been no measures to prevent these jumbos from coming into the villages.
With the raids by the elephants continuing, on Friday several houses were destroyed in the area and a massive amount of crops stored in houses were destroyed.
Locals have requested the government to take measures for their rehabilitation and also to prevent the invasion of these elephants.

The man-elephant conflict has been a major issue in Assam and most of the time, the death of either one of them turns out to be the end result.
Earlier this week, a forest guard was grievously injured during an elephant attack in Hojai’s Lanka.

The forest official was identified as Shivajit Sharma of Lanka.
Another incident occurred earlier on Sunday where a 45-year-old man, identified as Rajib Gogoi, was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Bojaloni under Margherita West Range forest office of Digboi Forest Division in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.
